Here at Great Northern K9, we focus on training both ends of the leash. The most important thing is you, and the dogs owner, establishing a positive relationship and method of communication with your dog. That is why every training package includes an online, self paced program through our affiliated video series. You can watch, pause and re-watch as much as you need. Additionally, we offer private, in-person lessons to help you implement and tailor the training to you and your dog.
PUPPY PRESCHOOL
New puppies are cute, cuddly and A LOT of work! Starting training at a young age will create proper foundations that will make training later in life so much easier and prepare for future training courses. This puppy training program is designed to help jump start training, including important foundational things like handler engagement and proper socialization. Created for dogs 8-16 weeks old.
This course will cover:
Learning about dog psychology and why dogs do anything
Early enrichment games to develop their thinking and skills
Building marker and a strong reward system so you can effectively communicate with your dog and reward good decisions and redirect nuisance behaviors
Housebreaking
Crate training, and making the crate a positive, relaxing space
How to properly socialize your puppy
Learn handling techniques including luring and free shaping

FOUNDATIONAL OBEDIENCE
This is the first steps to getting the relationship you and your dog deserve. You will learn the ingredients to build a rewarding system for both ends of the leash that include commands for real life application. This will give you the foundation needed to grow together toward any of your goals. For dogs over 4 months old.
This course will cover:
Learning about dog psychology and how to apply it to training
Understanding how to build good training culture so the dog is just as invested as you
Building marker and a strong reward system so you can effectively communicate with your dog and reward good decisions
How to shape desired behaviors
How to use the leash as a directional language, not simply a restriction
How to transition behaviors to structured commands, specifically focusing on 5 basic commends for everyday life

ADVANCED OBEDIENCE
Want your dog to be as reliable off leash as they are on leash? This course covered how to properly use an e-collar and transition your skills off leash. This course specifically covers the NePoPo® approach to e-collar application featuring Martin System® gear.
** Our advanced obedience program is for students who have completed our foundational obedience and use what was taught regularly and reliably.
** We still encourage obeying local leash laws, and only going off leash where permitted and safe.
This course will cover:
Learning about proper e-collar use as well as common misconception and recognizing improper use.
Learn how to condition and use low level stimulation as a way of communication and encouragement to the dog
Learn how to layer your new e-collar language into existing behaviors the dog already understands and fade out the leash
Learn to proof and generalize your new off leash skill for practical every day application
